As for people's usages of them, keeping one at home obviously makes sense. But to me the most obvious other thing is to always have one on you in case of an emergency. My job is close to home so unless have a spare I'm not using I'm not going to waste one on that. I dont make much thus i am expecting to work until the day i die. You are wrong in thinking that day is 30+ years away for me though. At current costs a 250k lump sum would last me between 9-10 years.
