People here, when they disagree with you, will often interpret you in the least charitable way possible, but at least they say something, so you can try to argue your point in as good-faith as possible, it's usually pointless, but it can at least allow you to try.

Reddit just sinks you to oblivion, and causes others to interpret what you're saying in the worst way possible, if you happen to disagree with the general opinion of a particular thread. I don't think even my worst opinions are that bad, but the site makes it seem like they're just horrific.

The upvote/downvote system tends to degenerate into that state. It's not conducive to an environment of discussion because a malicious actor can simply bot votes to promote or sink views depending on whether they agree or disagree with them. It's also why you see a lot of karma farming with low effort copy-pasted posts.

Sometimes, if you pull your punches enough, you can get an honest response from even a subreddit that's extremely positive, but you have to be really careful. To the point it's hardly worth it a lot of the time.

What really bites for me, is that people will associate you with the worst people if you happen to have one overlapping opinion. Like for what Marvel said, complaining about a certain aspect of a series will immediately make you a hater. And it's hard to elaborate further to differentiate yourself, because they don't try to prod you for your reasoning, they just downvote and move on.

That's what I enjoy here because even if you've got a bad take, I still get to see it instead of everyone pushing it away and not dealing with it

But yeah, the bad interpretation, assumptions and then bandwagoning sucks

Honestly, this can happen here as well. But as mentioned, there's usually at least an opportunity to make it clear that you aren't as bad as they may be assuming.

The worst is when you sort by contriversial to see the blunt & honest replies and alot of the comments are removed by the mods who can't handle anyone having different viewpoints from them.

Rarely, if you soften up your post enough, you'll get people willing to respond, but it's a real pain. I suppose this is an online thing, it's effected how I type in a ton of places.
