There's been a few times where there was a rule in place simply because other employees couldn't be trusted but I knew I wouldn't do the thing that caused there to be a rule about it.

So what, you should follow all the rules of every religion to avoid sin?

That reminds me how at my old job we had to set up some rules so the colleagues don't break our processes.

They didn't apply to me, because I was setting up, managing and maintaining these processes (and rules).

Take a guess who broke the rule and the process in one go?

My boss.

I quit ~2 months later, lol.

For me it was like we wherent supposed to read a book cause too many would do that and not do their job which was simply get up and make a round/patrol every 15 minutes.

Stuff like that in general.

It's fine if I don't go, which I'm not planning to.

Depending on the situation, this is my approach to work and the rules pretty explicitly do apply to me. And can have (severe) consequences beyond simply getting fired <_<

It really just depends.

I try to respect rules, even if they don't apply directly to me. No need to create tension where there doesn't need to be.

But if it's a rule, and it's a dumbass rule that serves no purpose but to complicate things, I'm not above electing to ignore it.

I have a much more vested interest in making mission happen (safely) than following all the rules to a T

Yeah that's what I was getting at. In my case the rule was a mistake all around. Yeah reading a book distracted the guards from doing their patrols. But they where at least awake. I didn't read books much bur I'd did a couple of times. Twice I managed to read a whole book in one shift. Still did all my patrols too and everything else I was supposed to.

I'm not one for rule breaking but I knew why that rule existed and knew I wasn't gonna have the same hangup
