Like, whenever someone asks a question about relationships, there is an endless stream of "break up with them!", "huge red flag!", or my favorite "if X ever expressed Y or Z, I'd laugh in their face and the relationship and it'd be over!". And then there is the inverse "why is it so hard to date" posts. You have to wade through like 500 posts to find one with no upvotes where someone sounds like a human being. According to Reddit, it seems like a poster's opinion is fact, only they get to have emotions, and only they decide what happens around themselves. Everyone else just needs to deal with it! Also, why can't I ever express my feelings?!!!

I feel certain most of these people must be a mix of assholes and dissatisfied people who wish they had more control over their lives and other people, who in turn feel reassured when they see other posting the same types of things.

Quick to call anything and everything a red flag is a red flag in itself. People can say and do some dumb shit when in their feelings, doesn't mean it reflects who they really are. And people can change and learn from their mistakes. Always wanting blood for people who make mistakes and unable to forgive is a red flag.

Upvote system favors jokes and going with popular sentiment. Reddit isn't like GameFaqs where each post is in order and can't be silenced if you say a thing against the sentiment.

Why spend 5-10 minutes writing a thoughtful post when you can spend a couple seconds and make a joke and get way more internet points.

It's really easy to be tough online. "If my GF said that I would break up with her on the spot" is easy to say when it's completely anonymous. Actually doing that in real life is way more complex.

It's kind of like when war is brought up and people post "Well if I was drafted I would just solo the entire enemy army with my l33t skizzles, duh"

Not really. Reddit brings out the most extreme people. Some subreddits just attract a certain kind of person, and with how echo-chambery the communities are, the folks you see commenting on those things the most are usually the real chronically online users.

But saying things like mentioned in the first post is a red flag cos it shows too much entitlement and its how they really feel.

This... I mean when they give good advices(which is rare). It's usually on a situation where nobody in their right mind would disagree

If you go into a specialty sub for a certain product and ask a very specific question ("should I get this version of the product or this?") you might get decent advice. That's about it.

Most Reddit posts seem to be stupidly one sided or lacking context, so that's generally the appropriate response. You're not going to get much of a nuanced take with two paragraphs of a most likely fake story.

Most posts on reddit are pretty straightforward, "person crossed a hard boundary, what should I do" is usually met with "end the relationship" because that's just the logical answer. Rarely is there a break up with them reply (with lots of upvotes) for anything extremely minor.

I do agree the upvote system tends to promote group think, but I also like that stupid or irrelevant posts are rarely seen since they are downvoted to obscurity.

I think they can be good for cold hard fact, but not emotional problems
