An official document in the UK recognising a trans person's gender. They have to go through a pointlessly bureaucratic process to get one and, until recently, pay a hefty fee (there's still a fee but it's now much smaller).

For most purposes, including protection from discrimination, it doesn't actually matter whether they have a GRC or not - see CyricZ's post above (#11) - and many trans people (probably the majority) never bother getting one, because they don't need it. But transphobes often find it convenient to pretend that whether a trans woman has a GRC or not is actually incredibly important somehow.

It wouldn't be the first time a transphobic prick like She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named falsely claimed that a cisgender person that they hate was trans in an attempt to dehumanize and "other" them. Oh I still like his work, but I've been preferring Pratchett lately. I'm amazed at the clarity of the social commentary in his work.

You know J.K. Rowling is a prime example as to why conservatives focus on shit like this. They blow a story out of proportion and make it seem like a massive deal. Bombard people with this shit as much as possible. Then people start arguing about it. Then the people who got offended double down. At that point it doesn't matter if they were mislead or some details were wrong. They are too invested. They're now arguing with their left-wing friends and starting to feel exiled. Suddenly they're now flipped and opposing left-wing policies all because of this small scale issue that they wouldn't even know about if they weren't constantly online or reading stories about it.

I still remember how Inuyasha was super popular, then it kept on going. I don't really recall much of any excitement about the manga's end.
