I'm sure Malboro is a reference to Marlboro cigarettes, though Morbol would be the more accurate translation of "moruboru."

I always thought they switched from Malboro to Morbol to avoid copyright issues, but they still used Malboro in 15, so idk.

It does, but going back and forth makes no sense. It was morbol in FF16, but malboro in FF7 Rebirth.
