Like, the story is an integral part of the the RPG genre.

They're just playing the role of someone who doesn't care about the story.

if they find the story lacking, or have some other issues(s) with it, why wouldn't they complain?

A good story doesnt make up for bad gameplay. Some rpgs have great stories but the actual gameplay is dogshit and detracts from the experience.

At the end of the day its a video game, and not a book or visual novel. Its meant to be played and should be fun.

Like, I've seen people on the internet claim the later Pokemon games have too much story as a reason for not liking them. Well genius, it's an RPG of course it's going to have a story.

Red/Blue mostly just had an excuse plot. You're traveling the land fighting gym leaders in order to qualify for a league, and randomly you foil a crime group's schemes sometimes. And some other kid is also going on the same journey too. It's barely more complex than that.

I could see why people can feel an RPG has "too much story"; like, if the pacing is off, or if they came in for the other mechanics, and found the story overtook them in the overall game's balance.

research into the game helps, but a lot of Pokemon fans are younger, so it might end up being a learning moment for them.

A lot of too much story complaints are really just pacing complaints. When the game takes control away from you too much, people can get annoyed especially if the story youre being forced to watch isnt good.

Pokmon is the kind of game where gameplay should be front and center, and its not exactly the heavy story type of rpg. I can understand not liking the story of later pokmon games because theyre pretty boring and of course take up more time than older games.

Not wanting shitty writing doesn't mean "story" isn't wanted at all
