I have yet to get rid of a phone that wasn't well in excess of five years old, so I doubt I could get much in resale value.

yeah i guess so, no idea how those machines even work. Prob that would be an important factor , the machine sees how old your phone is....

My current phone (purchased in 2022) is my first without a readily consumer-replaceable battery.

Its not that bad depending on usage. I heavily use my phone, a XS Max, and charge in the early morning and in the afternoon. My phone is 6 years old now.

The warranty doesnt cover regular wear and tear. This site is for checking what it would cost you to get your battery replaced by Apple. Mine would cost me $89.

With warranty its free or low cost, same if you have AppleCare+. After that theyll charge more but still replace it.

Messed with one a couple of times after upgrading/switching carriers. Both times my phone was old enough it offered me $0 and said it would recycle it for free lol. I have both phones in a drawer somewhere

If it was about babies we'd have universal maternal care. There would be no charge no matter how complex the delivery. But its not about babies, is it?
