Some of them can be, but I've also seen some reasonably priced ones. As for whether it's overpriced or not, that ultimately depends on how much you end up eating. Just don't fall for the distractions like the salad bar and the super filling freebies they throw on the table that are designed to keep you from ordering more meat.

It's not a bad experience and worth the money if you're an eater.

If you're not a big eater $50+ is a bit pricey.

Same goes for a lot of Korean BBQ places now.

Not at all. I went to a great one when I lived in Vegas, although I did piss off a couple of the people bringing meat around. They seemed to think two thin slices would be enough, but I verbally held them at my table until I got the portions I wanted.

Oh, I know the salad bars are usually pretty good. I was still just talking purely from the economic incentive to focus on the higher priced items to get your money's worth.

Although to your point, some steakhouse salad bars will have things like prosciutto which is worth far more per pound than your average cut of steak, so getting meat from the salad bar may also be a good call if you're trying to get your money's worth.
