Maybe you've got this friend, or a family member, someone that used to be important in your life. Used to really matter. Something happens, you have a massive falling out, or maybe you just look back one day and notice things have moved south by degrees over the years. Maybe you're even able to address it and repair a fair bit of it.

But ultimately you know, no matter what, from that point on it'll never quite be like it used to be. That your core relationship with this person has been forever altered, and it's never for the better. Whatever you used to be to each other, you'll never quite be that again.

It's usually fine enough--that's life a lot of times. But every so often you think on it, think of what things were once like, and it almost feels like grieving for a death.

Does moving away and just abruptly cutting yourself off from people count? As a kid in the 80s and 90s, pre internet, I had to move around America multiple times. 1 friend I saw 2 more times, like over a decade later. I was in their state once. And the 2nd time he visited my state. And my family and his family hung out for a few hours

Both times, it did feel different from back in the day. We had been apart for too long and become different people

My sister and I were very close, but I think she felt betrayed when I moved out to live with my girlfriend, and then came back without a girlfriend and also a broken hikineet she had to deal with. I'm much better now, but our bond is long gone, even if we're perfectly civil with each other.

I moved away from everybody I knew less than 2 years ago. Ive visited the UK once since leaving it, but Im already feeling that anybody I didnt get round to seeing on that visit, theres not really a relationship there anymore in most cases.

Yeah, it sucks. Especially when you're the reason why things aren't the same anymore.
Had a close friend once. We hung out all the time, spent many nights at his place after partying or picking up girls. We were groomsmen at each other's weddings.
As time went on, things just seemed to fall in place for him. He was becoming successful at work, getting better quality women, had a better car, crib... everything.
He never really changed how he treated me, but I found myself becoming jealous, and I slowly drifted away. I haven't seen him or spoken to him in over a decade. I miss my friend.
