Did they ever explain why they chose to make all the levels generic areas instead of taking them from games?

It's set in the super-generic World of Trophies. The only area really taken from an existing game is the Ruined Zoo, from the EarthBound series.

Hey that could be any ruined zoo.
I guess if those sci-fi levels actually take place in space you could say that's taken from Metroid as well. --- Still waiting on that third threat ... Copied to Clipboard!
