Well, HG/SS were great games to come back to. And then Black and White were good follow ups.

My interest fell around Gen 4, and I didn't realize Gen 5 was out until like a year after release

Gen 6 with its 3D stuff, Mega Evo, Customization, new pokemon type, all the DexNav features and coming off the BW2 games, the hype/ leak cycle caught me and I was reading up on nearly every update. My hype was actually reaching Smash Levels, actually felt like a a HUGE improvement for the series was coming

Then Gen 7 came along, and I enjoyed for a bit, then I dropped Moon and haven't played since

I played Gen 4 (excellent), and then 6 (not bad)

For quite a while after that the fangames were better than the actual games.

Because kids in the late 90s were bullied in the 2000s s as teenagers for still liking it so much. Then the 2010s came around and redid the second gen and they were all old enough to not be pressured into pretending they didnt enjoy it anymore.

Gen 3 was released when the fad had wholly ended, and the kids who were into it were now angsty teens who only played "mature" games on PS2 and Xbox. Nintendo as a whole was seen as "lame" during the Gamecube years.

However, with Gen 4, a lot of kids started going into college and finding other people who also liked the Pokemon games, causing a resurgence in popularity among young adults.
