Japan needs to be stopped

It really does get difficult to recommend this series to people sometimes when you've got stuff like this, especially since it's not even the biggest age gap in the series (case 2-3, Ben is 31 and wants to propose to a 16-year-old girl, whom every other adult male involved in the case also wants to fuck) or characters like Jean Armstrong, who have aged... incredibly badly

Japan's age of consent was 13 when that game was written. You might disagree with that but in the end, context matters.

When did I say I was "torturing myself", I love Ace Attorney. I also recognize that there are aspects of it that have aged terribly and make it a hard thing to recommend sometimes to somebody who hasn't played it before.

Welp you brought age into this, how was I supposed to respond then;) I wasn't arguing for or against Japan's age of consent here; I just provided context. Keep in mind that this is a japanese game written for japanese audience.

I understand. Nothing we can do about that unfortunately. In the end it's just a game, another piece of fiction. Imho recommend it if you want, no need to feel bad about it.

Terry Fawles is clearly mentally ill, so you can chalk it somewhat up to that. (spoilers for the rest of the game) Dahlia is also a serial manipulator, so it wouldn't surprise me if she went out of her way to manipulate someone she knew was mentally ill and much older than her so that it would be easier for him to take the fall. This does fall into the trap of blaming Dahlia for being in a relationship with a 20 year-old man, and fails to examine if that relationship influenced her to take the actions that she did, but either way, T&T as a whole does not act like this is a good and desireable thing, and neither do any of the characters that aren't Terry or Dahlia.

I should also point out that the localization of the game moves it from Japan to America, so maybe it would have been a good idea to adjust the ages and/or timeline of events a bit so the player isn't going to bat for a pedophile since the "age of consent" argument doesn't hold a single drop of water anymore
