It was good, but i had way more fun playing the original RE4 back when it was new

The top 5 are 4, 6, 2R, Rev 2, and 8. 4 is just on the edge, but some of its mechanics are too frustrating to put it in the top 5.

Haven't gotten round to playing it yet. Need to make time for it. And buy it.

So they're skipping CV for 5?

Despite actually owning a copy of RE4 on the wii, the xbox 360, and again on the PS4, RE4 remake is actually the very first time I beat part 4 =/

Its one of the weirdest things......I was always around when RE4 exploded in popularity during it's gamecube release and I had access to one via my brother's, but for some reason is just took me more than a decade to actually play it.

Code Veronica is fundamentally flawed. The only way you could possibly make it good is a complete overhaul of the structure and the story of the game. Code Veronica also has next to no relevance to the rest of the series; all that really comes out of it is Chris knowing Wesker is alive (which is only relevant for RE5, which gives you a different flashback letting you know that Chris knows that Wesker is alive), Chris reuniting with Claire (which... never, ever comes up again?), and C-Virus zombies and monsters in 6 having a fire effect on them. If I were John Capcom, I would skip Code Veronica without a second thought.

I didnt exactly dislike the 4 remake, and its well above the remakes of 2 and 3 for me, but its not even close to top 5 for me. The next couple of spots would be taken up OG 1 and 2.

They balanced all of the coolness out of a lot of the cool weapons from the original, made it a lot less exciting for me.

For me it was garbage, didn't even bother finishing the castle.

I disagree. The original had this insanely addicting arcadey feeling goodness to it that was completely stripped out of the remake. It was a good game, but doesnt come close to matching the highs i felt while playing the original.

I bought it when it came out, but I haven't gotten around to playing it yet.

Having fun with the quest version of re4 at the moment

I ran with the red9 and ended up satisfied

However, fuck whoever thought to not add a laser to it.

The Riot Gun was the real hero. The only weapon that doesn't feel like it has downsides

As in past tense, I bet a dollar for donuts you haven't played it in a while.

It's full of QTEs, escort quests, long boring corridors. Has terrible pacing. Has an atrocious menu system were it takes a long time to do basic actions and pretty crappy controls.

People loved it on release like you did because it had cutting edge graphics at the time but huge aspects of the game just plum do not hold up outside of nostalgia.

RE4make fixes all of that. The only real loss is that it's "Less silly" which is a good thing IMO but I get people who don't like that.

I've never in my life heard anyone argue "This game would be better if it we inserted crappy QTEs every 4 seconds, menuing took 9 times as long and 4 times as many button presses and we slowly ran up and down a more corridors so the pacing crashes to a halt." yet that's what people are proposing for RE4make? I don't buy it.

If the OG RE4 was released for the first time today, it would be generally panned. Game design has moved on. The remake kept everything that was good and fixed everything that was broken.
