Better websites came about and there was nothing that GFAQs was doing well at comparatively that people felt compelled to keep coming back in a regular basis. Right now GameFAQs says it has 983 currently registered users on the site. Resetera says it has 2,147. Despite having supposedly over double the users, the boards don't move that fast there (and remember, there are only 4 there compared to thousands of active boards on GameFAQs). Resetera is either cooking the books and/or GameFAQs is really conservative with what is an active user. It's surprsing that they have over 2000 active and registered users, when most people don't even have an email address that they accept to register. Only those who are tried and true have been here for many years decades still enjoy engaging with the boards. Even though it's a shell of is former self. And newcomers don't bother because there's other alternatives. They may just use the guides or ask game specific questions. But even with those you, they may get quicker information going to YouTube guides or finding Discord groups. And if you are stuck on something, there's likely a hundred youtube videos specifically about the issue you have no matter how niche it may be.
