..jerk or real mean to other employees but they would not get rid of them cause they were a good worker or did a lot of work, yeah like they were really toxic and stuff too.

Yeah. There are lots of bad atittude and mean people who work minimum wage jobs.l in my experience.

Yeah the jobs don't pay shit and are stressful but being an ass doesn't help.

Yep in the airforce. I was so happy when they started leaving to different bases (mainly to south korea) or finishing off their contract.

Once most of them left my morale increased by 100%. The people coming in from diff bases were far nicer to me

I once shared a quote with an old boss of mine:

"If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea."

He gave me a blank look for a second and asked "why did you tell me that?" I said "I came across it recently and liked it a lot - thought it's worth sharing." He gets this hoity-toity look and says "huh. I think it's trite" and walks away.

About a week later a few of us are in the break room and he walks in and announces, very self-satisfied, "I saw a good quote this morning: 'if you're not pulling your weight, you're pushing your luck'." Just the most trite, authoritarian nonsense.

He was just an arrogant, unthoughtful prick like that. That kind of thing really speaks to someone's character, to me. He also made fun of disabled clients and talked shit about employees with other employees, so there's that.

The closest thing I've had to this is the last place I worked, but he wasn't mean at all he was actually extremely nice. It was mostly work-from-home programming and the guy had an extremely weird work/sleep schedule, was basically impossible to get a hold of before 1pm and I'd regularly wake up to messages from him sent at 4 or 5am talking about normal work subjects. He was extremely good though and produced a lot of great code.

so not sticking around despite being mean, but someone who got a lot of benefits afforded to them because of their ability

Yeah, I've had the opposite too, not a good worker (bare minimum or inappropriate work) but gets along with people

yeah he probably got more done than anyone else and there were some complex parts of the code that he was basically the only one who fully understood them. super smart guy honestly

My current job. It's not because they're a good worker or anything though. It's because she's married to the manager and they're afraid if they get rid of her that he'll quit too.

Honestly, it wouldn't be a big loss to lose both of them, and I doubt he'd leave over that anyway.

They think he'll be mad if they fire her and leave with her. That and she might try to force him to quit because she's mad.

I work with a guy who constantly brags about cheating on his pregnant wife, tells me how he wouldnt let his kids be trans, and also drinks and takes X on the job. Hes my boss pet, though, so any whistleblowing would put any of us in hot water. He keeps telling me how me and my wife should come over for dinner and it takes everything in me not to tell him to go fuck himself. Like I cant see through his ruse.

so he's like a huge asshole and also very incompetent, can not do his job at all, and they still won't get rid of him? This might be very common at workplaces, sadly

Pretty much. He always says he wants to make $100k sitting on his ass and making others do it.

He does just that, but he makes $30k, two kids already, and a stay at home wife currently pregnant with the third. Their names are Nova, Bentley, and Brody.
