Then - Going into lockdown in a rental townhouse with a BPD / ADHD gf (we broke up 5 months later), and in a custody battle with the ex wife

Now - newlywed (different person obviously), children arrangement I wanted, and just moved in a house

Pretty big difference

Ignoring my declining health, I'd say I'm a bit better off today than I was 4 years ago.

The only real changes in my life over the past 4 years was moving and switching jobs, both of which I consider to be an upgrade.

4 years ago i had an apartment that had spotty hot water.

now: in a rent subsidized apartment based on income... it's for the better. just gotta make it 4 more years (then it wont be as hard).

also to note. probably going to lose my dog in the next 4. her lifespan will have reached the maximum if she survives.

4 years ago today was when I started working from home and I'm still doing it. A few weeks later I got furloughed for about a month before getting reactivated because I had experience with our contract system and the contract manager at the time quit. Definitely much better off now and less stressed. I've also lost the 20lbs I put on during that time and am back to my prior weight.

Today I'm working a much less physically and emotionally demanding job, have extremely minimal personal debt, and just bought a new car that I can easily afford thanks to the aforementioned minimal personal debt, ending a streak of hoopties with questionable maintenance histories.

Plus, I don't have to wake up and think "What did that fucking moron do to embarass us today?"
