I have everything I need (litter, litter box, food bowls, toys, carrier ect)

Are there specific things I should ask the shelter? I don't want a kitten cause they'll be too much to handle I feel. I live alone in apartment.

I understand. Take the time you need. If anything, do what I did and just gather stuff you need gradually. By the time you move, you'll be ready to just go and adopt right away.

You don't adopt cats, cats adopt you.

Also need some scratching posts.

Get you some Resolve spray and have some rags available at all times. Good for cleaning vomit or urine out of carpet and rugs and whatever. Even if the cat's box trained, you never know when it's gonna get stressed out and pee or vomit on something. Also don't put too much stock into what the shelter tells you about a cat's behavior. The staff and volunteers only have so much time to get to know each pet and your home is a different environment anyway. Expect any of your soft furniture to get a little shredded and never declaw.

Throw those toys away and order stuff online and keep the boxes. Actually did the toys already come with a box?

Cat-proof your house. Small loose objects will be knocked to the floor and claimed. Dont leave piles of fresh washing around. They will he claimed. Dont forget to monitor their teeth and kidneys. Get those bowls that are elevated so they dont have to strain their neck.

Adopt two cats. That way, they can still get some social interaction even when you're not available.

Make sure it is neutered, and has had all of it's shots. Last thing you want to deal with is a horny sick cat.
