When they discover the truth, they will at least have some comfort/dread knowing the cosmos is full of punsters. Also, a couple years after they see the rest of the phrase, I would have my fleet return and intimidate them a bit while I give them a lecture on the dangers of using fossil fuels too long, and then give them entry grade fusion reactors and the knowledge of fission too, and wish them luck in avoiding a catastrophy. The trick is, by getting fission knowledge too, if they are potentially dangerous, then since everyone gets the nuke at the same time, if they are too warlike they will either destroy themselves with it, or hurt themselves enough that EVERYONE on the planet decides to never do this again and it may change them for the better. tl;dr, if any of you can interfere with an industrial revolution society, give them perfect, easy to make fusion reactors, but also give them nuclear weapons.
