In fairness not all boomers, etc.

My mother is understanding and just as frustrated as I am regarding my unemployability (father and uncle, though and what a surprise, both conservatives), and her best friend is a flat out socialist.

I like when they respond to criticism of capitalism with you dont know the horrors of socialism, you werent there when we beat those communist pricks!

As though a soldier on the ground has anything whatsoever to do with the politics behind the conflict, and are likely drinking propaganda straight from the tap so any understanding they think they have is probably intentionally wrong.

Some of them did. They got PTSD, drug addiction, and homelessness. They lived through acid rain, The Cold War and The Energy Crisis, for which they blamed the Silent Generation.

And now people go on about how they were all given houses and cushy jobs on a handshake, and developed a sense of entitlement.

Generalising about generations isn't very useful. But hey, it's the fate of everyone to have the previous generation think you are lazy, and the subsequent one resent you from standing in the way of progress.

Millenials are starting to feel it now

I'm pretty sure my parents schooling (and most people from their generation in Australia) was literally traumatic compared to now

Like my dad was caned by teachers and stuff. Yes houses were cheaper but it's a bit inaccurate to pretend they have coasted through life. And as we all know an unstable childhood can fuck you up

Of course it's not all of them and there are plenty of cool baby boomers, but that age range seems to have the most dickish people. Back when I worked retail, the older folks back then were from the greatest and silent gens and they weren't nearly as jerkish as older boomers are now. Most of them were pretty nice and patient. I had more issues from the then middle aged boomers than anyone.

The way I deal with this is by playing dumb. When somebody gives me that Tommy Lee Jones leer because my two-year-old is excitedly identifying things around the store, because for some reason they've been talking with the paint section attendant for about seventeen times longer than is realistically possible, I just smile and wave back as if they were being friendly instead of a complete ass.

I don't know why but this amuses me.

As a GenXer, we are feeling that HARD right now, mainly because we "did nothing" to stop the boomers for ruining everything.

Like all of us at that ranged from 8 to 16 years old in the 1980's had any power to do anything while the generational earnings gap began. And now we're the assholes because our parents did well for themselves and set some of us up for success as well.

This corny ass song "The Living Years" came out in the 80's about a guy regretting not telling his dad all the things he wanted to before he passed, but the opening line has really sat with me, especially as I get older.

Keep in mind, this song is nearly 40 years old, and this line still fits today. And probably will 40 years from now:

"Every generation
Blames the one before
And all of their frustrations
Come beating on your door"

These boomers actually grew up in a slower, less demanding time - they were the benefactors of the New Deal and US military supremacy and had more opportunity and comfort than every generation after.

Yet they believe they worked and struggled harder.

(Edit: I'm talking specifically about boomers, not the prior generation that had the great depression and WW2)

Honestly I run into more entitled gen xers and millennials than boomers.

Fwiw, the boomers I see at least can process why something is going slow. The gen x and millennials complain but refuse to process the obvious, visually unobstructed reason why something might be slow (e.g. lack of staffing, size of a location, etc).

I've had bad ones in my age group but for different reasons. Then her bf threatened to beat my ass cause I sighed and mumbled something under my breath

Friends,

first off, I am 61.

I am usually calm, I tell everyone, I am not in a hurry, I am retired.

I even drive slow on the highway, drives everyone insane. jajajaja.

I guess some in in a hurry, because they might wake up dead tomorrow, so this
is there last day on earth, and they have so many things to do.

They might have slight mental problems, so they hyper focus on what you are
doing, and the wait is killing them. who knows.

All I can say, is SORRY, please try to have more patience with us.

Which is what I was pointing out. Many behavioral things that people attribute to "boomers" are actually being done by Gen Xers. So the so whatever was happening that made the topic creator ask "Why are boomers such impatient asses?" is probably being done by 45-60 year old Gen Xers and not 65-80 year old Boomers.

In my case, it's literally always slow EXCLUSIVELY because of a customer who inexplicably stands at the register for longer than you can run through every possible thing they could be doing that would take a long time.
