no that was

but nothing in x-men '97 is altered like that. the show is airing as intended.

It is a continuation of the old 97 cartoon so Rogue had a butt and now she doesn't is the same thing.
This is isn't supposed to be treated like a new series as it even starts where the old one left off and these are the same characters in the same costumes with the same development from the previous.
I get the argument why removing the butt is good to make it watchable for kids, but you don't then argue that isn't censoring. I was mostly joking

all wrong. you just want to cry about "censorship" cause apparently you can only get turned on by cartoon women.

I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but that doesn't mean you get to complain about every show not catering to you.

So this is not a continuation of the old 97 cartoon? Rogue is not literally the same exact character from the old 97 cartoon? The plot has nothing to do with the old 97 cartoon?

So with the art style having less detail in general therefore being different means the art style itself is censored? Rogue's green on her suit is no longer shiny. Does that mean it was censored? Gambit's knee guards seem to be larger in the original. I guess that got censored too.

it is not being altered from it's original state, like Yu-gi-oh was. it's airing as intended, it doesn't matter what it's a continuation of.

so if watch a show for nudity but it ends up having no nudity in it, you consider it "censored"?

censor can also refer to them looking at the 1997 show and saying "we have to CHANGE this for the continuation because that is no longer suitable for kids"
this is different than changing a color for no real reason

again not saying it is a bad thing, maybe it is a good thing, it is pointless to say this isn't censorship. I get that people hate those weird youtubers who fuss over it but you can't rewrite words just because of them. not all censorship is bad and shying away from calling it what it is means you act like all censorship is bad

It seems he created the modern continuation, not the original 90s show, like the original 90s show wasn't created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee.

no. they didn't go back and scrub her butt out in the original cartoon. this new show is it's own thing, continuation of the old show or not.

When is it a artistic choice and when does it become censorship? Well to me, the difference would be down to "intention" from the creator. Well more importantly, when a product is finished in creation and they ended up editing things for PR reasons, then yeah I can consider that censorship like they did with Yugioh. If they made the change during pre-production of the show or while they're creating it, it becomes a gray area but I will lead it more to if the executives/producers force the change.

Upon rewatch, it's really just a product of its time. Batman the Animated series and Xmen 97 were both baby's first "serious" shows that did tackle some mature themes, though at least with Batman the Animated series learned not to take itself too seriously at times. A lot of the corniness of Xmen 97 was when it took itself so serious when it was just goofy...which I think is part of its charm. It's definitely nostalgia goggles for me for Xmen 97 because it was my introduction to the Xmen universe before getting into the comic books.

I think people liked it because it tried to fit into the comic stories of the day instead of do its own thing. X-Men Evolution for example was a good show but it was more inspired by X-Men than trying to be the X-Men of the comics at the time.

I could definitely see that. I started reading the mainline Marvel stuff around 1990 so I probably had my fill of X-Men by 1992 and maybe that's why it didn't hit all that well with me. And I more fondly remember Batman '89 in the theaters and grew up on reruns of Batman '66, so maybe I was just more inclined to enjoy Batman than X-Men.

Then again my favorite superhero was Spider-Man and I wasn't fond of Spider-Man TAS either. *shrug*
