I was watching a YouTube video debunking Elon's claims*. One of the claims Elon made is that the cybertruck was bullet proof. Then he had one of his staff demonstrate by throw an object at it. Which, of course, has way less force than a firearm. The object broken through the window.

While he made more promises. I just wanted to focus on this one. You don't need to be an engineer to know not make this claim. Anyone with an IQ of 100, would ask a REAL engineer if such this is possible. I think there's more to it.

I think there's an emotional component to Elon. He desperately wants to look cool. Even though he should know some of these claims are bogus, he doesn't want to disappoint "the boys". Am I getting hot? Is this what it is?

I feel like that's the reason he bought Twitter. Because he sees it as the place where all the cool edgy bros are and it needs "free speech". So he bought it, and almost ran it through the ground. Idk, being famous must be a bitch.

Musk is extremely emotionally needy, and that need for approval is more important than the truth or common sense or not looking like a complete bag of shite.

I kinda see there being 2 parts to the twitter purchase

part 1 is that he wants an established platform with a large number of essentially captive users. good for getting your views heard, good for trying to expand into other ventures since you already have a massive audience

part 2 is that he wants to stick it to the journalists. The tech sector (not just him, I mean in general) and tech-related journalism from large companies do not have a very good relationship and a lot of important people on both ends clearly hate each other. so doing things like messing with their blue checkmarks is probably just sort of fun/vengeful for him in a way

there is a disturbing trend among a particular caste of hyper-rich tech bro in that they just...say things, things with no supporting evidence at all, and they expect the world to change to fit whatever it is they just said. It's not unique to Musk, though he's by far the most prolific example.

I think it's a matter of none of them ever being properly told "No, that's dumb as hell"

I guess that part is true as well, he's sort of impulsive and doesn't really consider the long-term consequences of things he says/does

but I sometimes see people act like that's the only reason, which doesn't seem quite right either. if he just wanted to randomly buy various social media platforms, there are plenty out there which would be way cheaper and he could have been doing that for years. twitter clearly has some sort of value in his mind

Twitter is the largest social media platform in the world and has the power to affect political movements and elections. That alone you can see why anyone rich or with powerful influence would want to own that.

Intelligence and being born into wealth are not mutually inclusive traits. The more money you start with the more you can fail before you succeed so even an idiot with enough wealth can become successful.

He isn't stupid, he is of probably average intelligence but he has a talent for "flim flaming" people into buying into his schemes and plans.

He did do some computer coding himself a long time ago... so he has that level of cognitive ability, he's just afflicted with right wing brain-rot.

Except he didn't think that far ahead. He offered to buy Twitter, set a meme price for it, then tried to back out once they called his bluff. They had to sue to get the deal to go through.
