There's another form of -flation called crapflation where they use cheaper ingredients to increase profit margins. If you feel like things don't taste like you remember, it may not be faulty memory or rose-tinted nostalgia glasses, but rather an actual recipe change. Capitalism was sold as a system where private entities would compete to drive progress, making improvements while at the same time reducing prices. Instead we've got 2-3 companies dominating each industry and the only competition we're getting is competing to increase prices. If one company increases prices, the other(s) follow suit.
