10-2's battle system was the best thing about the game. It's a shame we didn't see Square use it for any other FF title.

Record Keeper. It uses an updated version of the X-2 system in that skills have both a cooldown and an activation timer, essentially making "speed" on both ends extremely important in the same way that it is in X-2. Stronger skills = slower, weaker skills = faster, but with the added complexity of caring about character/ability speed in a more nuanced way.

Can't say I'd recommend playing it at this point, though, the game is currently JP only (last I knew) and the power creep has probably completely removed what made the game engrossing originally. Regardless it has the best ATB in FF period.
