Generally speaking I am very against a TikTok ban (for the matter this goes for basically all the big social media platforms besides Twitter)

...I am not completely against a Twitter ban, at least in its I Can't Believe It's Not Gab state it's been in for the past year and a half.

I'm on Twitter but not on Tik Tok.

Twitter is way worse than TikTok and I use both a lot. Before Elon Musk purchased Twitter I wouldn't say either were bad (other than the typical "social media can damage our psychological conditions" type thing, nothing specific to the platform)

his "Free speech absolutist" crap means allowing racism, sexism, all forms of bigotry to run rampant while shielding himself from actual words that have precise meaning (for example, cisgender is now considered a slur on the platform and will get your account suspended if someone reports it) whereas actual slurs are allowed to be used without any sort of action.

Any of his moronic fanboys who pay to use the platform just try to farm engagement and their posts get boosted to the top, burying anything with actual substance if you don't pay the $8 fee. You can open a viral post and you can see the same person replying 15 different times with just nonsense emojis just to get views.

It's awful.

Musk didn't buy Twitter as a means of investment. He bought it because he wanted to be in control of its moderation or lack thereof, and then use it as a vehicle to spread propaganda and silence dissenting voices, since it already had an established and large user base and visibility

Twitter is worse because more people take its content seriously.

It is much more lax now moderation wise? You mean they allow stuff like racial slurs to go unmodded?

I need to vent. Tiktok I started using seriously like 4 weeks ago I did have an account when it was musical.ly i just used the same old one and its videos that reccomend to me it's just people clout chasing I saw a depression tiktok yeah I relate to some of your feelings I go on the account and it's just the same depression related videos where he's showing his attractive (im not judging him cos of that just explaining)face smiling and saying how hard life is, how he has no friends, Hates going gym but it was literally the same topic of depression the same general I'm happy on the outside sad on the inside repeating the same ideas for like 60 videos as far as I can tell from watching some and the thumbnails he had a popular one with like 5m views a less popular one with 2m and then a load of small view videos but the ideas were literally repeating and it makes his strong inital message just come off as hollow cos he just wants views likes and comments does this bother anyone else? cos it bothers me.

I avoid TikTok myself but still find myself coming back to Twitter, so I guess?
