I loved my last job but only cause I was damn good at what I did so I took a lot of pride in it. But I had a horrible boss. She would chew me out quicker than anyone cause she "expected better" where as she'd not say shit to other people

This job is easy as fuck the boss is cool as fuck. I can't remember the last time I've walked into a day of work without at least a little stress about what possibly is gonna be said or gonna happen that day.

It's a weird feeling cause I'm having to learn to not worry about such things. I'd be on edge anytime my last boss was anywhere near me. This one I can easily casually conversate with.

I'll miss working the prison but fuck that stress

Also fuck those 12 and half hour days. I work 8s now with an occasional 10

Only cause my boss outside her I thought it was the easiest job in the world. Despite the fact the inmates wherent in cells. I got assaulted one time in all of 4 years. And dude was so high he had no power behind his punches.

Juvenile detention center

3rd shift they are locked down the shift except the last hour we let 2 out at a time and hand them their hygiene items so they can brush their teeth and wash their face maybe a quick bird bath (they get a full shower shortly before 3rd shift)

All I do is is every so often walk around peak in their cell scan a qr code with a table and document their status on it. Awake appears to be asleep etc. And then we also do their laundry wash it fold it put itbaway. And so far I thing 4 loads has been the most we've had to do since I started cause 2nd goes a head and starts doing it for us.

I will get more responsibilities later but it's just paperwork. We have to document If they where behaved or acted up at all during the shift. If they behaved they get points they can use to buy snacks and shit.

It's wild though I worked one day of day shift. Required just so I'd know how each shift operated. I worked a odd shift where I was partially there for first and second. And they are stricter on the kids than they are adult inmates. They gotta ask permission to even get a drink of water. Never saw one get told no. I guess it's just so there is controlled movement instead of kids wandering anywhere they want. I hear assualts on staff and fighting in general is more common. So lucky me I'm in third. I don't relish the idea of having to get into it with a kid

But nah I legit worked a medium custody facility. They didn't have cells. 134 inmates with 2 officers but technically only 1 as the other by policy is to remain in the officers booth cause they are the one to be the communication to the rest of the unit should something go down.

So 6 dorms like that plus a segregation unit. It was a small prison but with staffing being short we where drastically outnumbered considering theybdidnt have cells just a bunch of bunks in a room

Ah no. Very real prison.

My specialty was finding contraband. They had a hard time hiding stuff from me. I have a shoe box full of shanks. 99% of the time they kept their stuff where you couldn't charge them with it so I'd just keep it. Have one that's practically a short sword. For size comparison it's slightly taller than a 2 liter soda

I almost worked at a Juvenile detention center once The only reason I took the other job was money and time Had I had more money and time, I would have done the juvenile detention center. But the other job started first. For the JDC, I had a couple more things to do there, and would have needed more gas money, and loving money

I don't know how... obviously gay you are. Idk if that what be a problem. Inmate accuses of something in a prison that can be easily fought. Kids I'm betting are a whole other battle. Like idk how much of a problem it is but it's something I've always worried about with both jobs. (Inmates where so damn homophobic) Fortunately I easily pass for straight.

Yeah I wouldn't find near as many if officers actually put some effort into their jobs. 99% of them would be in the same kinda spot. And I'd tell others where to look but few ever bothered.

Some would just say oh they'll make another but my thing was maybe it was gonna be used that night. You at least avoided some bullshit that night.

Oh and California prisons to my understanding are far far rougher than over here on the east

Tbh, I still have no idea what job I would have had there. I think I would have either chosen or found out the next time I went there They seemed to have a bunch of open positions, so Idk

Well here there isn't a lot of positions to be had. There's the admin lady who handles well admin stuff. A nurse a teacher. There's the director who's the big boss. Shift supervisors and then us though us is split. There is security which is what u hired on ad and a YTC. But we do the same exact job. Only difference is security is under a temporary contract and I'm betting gets paid less. Definitely don't get the state benefits.

Yeah. I would guess the number of positions probably depend on the place. Some may have more positions, especially if they had more funding or something This place had a lot of fancy stuff, IIRC And I remember they had quite a few positions open. Honestly, an admin one would have been good enough for me. I like stuff like that

Yeah this one is tiny. Only supposed to hold 18 kids. Though we got 21. And I'm sitting in here now with 2 coworkers and the supervisor.

I'm used to working a facility that holds 700-800 inmates and you are locked in one building with 134 of them you and just one other officer. And they didnt have cells like here

Im not really sure on the size of this one, tbh Its been a while since I was there. And its not exactly super close

Yeah this a hour drive for me. I'm used to a 10 minute commute........ but 8 day vs 12 hour day I'm still back home in a much shorter time frame
