depends on the school.

also plenty of people will insist they didn't have that at school, when in fact the library had a few apple IIs and they just never went to the library

some schools really do have nothing tho

We played Oregon Trail in the library as part of class and I live in bumfuck nowhere in the Midwest in the middle of cornfields. We had that in the very early 80s.

My elementary school did in the early 90s. But it was more of a novelty and something we just did a few times a year.

We didn't have Oregon Trail, but we had Math Munchers.

I remember playing some math game in the early eighties. We had a computer camp in the summer on the old green monster computers working in BASIC. In high school I was the last class who took typing on typewriters, they had moved to word processing the next year.

My school had them, Oregon trail and some game where you played as a fish and ate up other fish, and a King's Quest type game. When I was a teenager, the tech lab had Tomb Raider 2,

Mine had mandatory typing class and some computer lab class a few times a year. Starting from the 1st grade I wanna say.

We played some typing game iirc. No Oregon trail. Idr much about the computer lab class other than browsing random stuff on askjeeves. Actually stumbled on nsfw content by accident when I was trying to look for pictures of cougars. They were my fave animals at the time

The operating system was windows xp I think.

We had old macs in our computer lab that had the Oregon trail and a monster maker game plus probably plenty of other ones I never played. The year I entered sixth grade the computer lab was removed to make way for another class for 6th graders.

We also had newer computers that ran on Windows 95 and they all had that geometry screen saver that could mesmerize a bored student like no other.

I grew up in a rural area and schools didn't have shit. I remember a typing class in the 6th grade that was full of old school antique mechanical typewriters with ribbons. There weren't any numbers or letters on the keys and we were given paper charts with the keyboard layout to study at first. Then the charts were taken away and we had to type shit with totally blank keys that were hard af to push and kept getting stuck.

There was a room with computers but I don't remember people using them for anything but Oregon Trail.

My household has had a computer as early as I could remember. Definitely wasn't a common thing back then though. This was a Tandy 2000 didn't even come with a OS like windows grandad used DOS to make his own OS. Pretty simplistic mostly just stored word files. Had no internet access. He did put a few old-school style arcade games on it for my brother and I.

We got our firrs computer with internet in 98.

School did have those old Mac computers that the monitor looked like a apple but we rarely got to use them

I never got to play Oregon Trail. However, I do recall our old computer stuff was basically divided into two areas. In elementary school there was the computer lab room for us to all take simple tests after reading books, then there was the more fun room where it had learning games. There was some sort of weird dungeon crawler game where you had to fight words and math iirc.

After that it was actually a total lack of computer access until 8th grade (so from 5-7th nothing) where it was a bit backwards. In 8th grade we learned how to use Word, Excel, etc type things such as file saving etc, and had to type up lengthy things. Then came 9th where they then actually taught us how to use the proper homerow type of thing. Not like I can physically type "properly" anyways.

Oh, as for personal computer. My cousin had a computer for years, then my grandparents decided to take me to Circuit City and get a computer so I could use it for homework and such. Ofcourse, my dad never having a single interest in computers until then decided to lock it down for himself and I basically never got to use it. If he messed it up somehow, it was always my fault for putting all these games on it, which I didn't.

yes but they were pre-Win 3.1. even though windows 3.1 was out, we had weird DOS comps, or rather, some weird educational version clone of DOS.

in 1999 we finally got 1 pc in the whole school that had windows 95. it was never, ever, allowed to be touched by students. Hell, even the teachers were afraid to touch it because the IT guy/grade 6 teacher would have a shit-fit if even an icon was moved on the desktop.
