Since 2011 Sanderson has written 10 full novels. GRR Martin still hasnt finished 1.

INB4 well actually Martin has been working on other projects

In addition to his novels Sanderson has written novellas, graphic novels hes on a podcast, and he teaches creative writing in college.

Im not even a Sanderson fan but damn that MFer cant possibly sleep to get all the shit done he does.

I thought GRRM has even reached out to Sanderson about helping finish ASOIAF, but they never officially agreed on it? Or is that just online rumors

He would take over should anything happen to George RR Martin.

Which is funny. Both of the Biggest Fantasy writers would have someone else finish it for them and by the same person

I commend his work output and Im actually interested in reading The Stormlight Archive but I have this terrible habit of starting and getting hooked on unfinished series and this would be no different.

Over the last 14 years he has written the first 5 books but hes taking a break to write the next Mistborn trilogy and when he resumes it will take another presumably same chunk of time to finish the next 5 books as he said it was a planned 10 book series.

But again I commend him for all the stuff he does, you can expect a book in the series every 3 to 4 years when not on a break. I wish George R.R. Martin or fucking Patrick Rothfuss would take some inspiration from him.

At least when Stephen King got off his ass and decided to finish The Dark Tower he knocked out the final 3 books in 4 years! I understand not everyone can keep that pace but when we wait 12 years for a book thats ridiculous.

So kudos to Sanderson for being regular.

The difference between a guy who approaches it like a job, and people who want to be authors just so they can fuck off most of the time.

Not knocking jordan, at least he kept writing... he just didn't give a damn about finishing.

Sanderson is a terrible fit for ASOIAF. He just wouldn't match the tone of the series.

Sanderson, in my opinion is great with the start of the book, then it gets pretty slow in the middle, only for every single plotline to come to a crescendo in the last chapter

I really like Sanderson's works, but he'd be a terrible choice for finishing ASoIaF. Someone like Joe Abercrombie would be a much more appropriate tonal fit.

George has said before when he dies his books and characters die with him. No one else is finishing it. Hes gone on to talk about past popular authors and stories that were never finished yet we still love them. Hes basically tried to prepare people its not going to finish. Ive already accepted it. Though I do expect to see The Winds of Winter actually release I have no hope of ever seeing A Dream of Spring before he dies. Ive made peace with it.

I just want Rothfuss to release the last book to The Kingkiller Chronicle and Ill be content. At least Im only waiting on the final book there and not multiple ones.

Everyone talks about Sando finishing ASoIaF and I'm just thinking why the fuck would we want his current works delayed so he can attempt to finish something else? Especially an author whose work is very different tonally from Sanderson?

The 5th book for Stormlight comes out in November this year. Hes said its an ending to an arc and books 6-10 will be another arc, the two arcs are connected but you could stop at the ending of 5 and consider it a proper ending with some cliffhangers.

I dont know how valid that statement is. But after it releases you could ask again to see if it is finished. We do know that the main characters of 1-5 wont be the main characters for the second set.

Either way, the first Mistborn trilogy is definitely a finished series and can be read and enjoyed. (Second era is technically done but has cliffhangers to be resolved in the as yet unwritten Era 3)

Brandon doesnt have time to write everything he wants to. Having him finish another persons series would be terrible. Especially one he is a bad fit for.
