Why is there a fear of billing the rich again?

Unless there is a concern they have a kill switch, you could just forcibly take their money if they don't pay their due.

Its a childish notion that they will leave if taxes are too high - like don't threaten us with a good time here.

We're such capitalists the very notion of promoting competition or innovation is terrifying, we must let oligopolistic corporations get too big to fail then coddle them as they provide worse service and demand less taxes and regulations.

The whole thing is backwards.

I'm Spectrum as well. Mine went out after a thunderstorm a couple years ago, they said it would be a week before they could get a tech out to me. Then the next day, I get a call from the guy saying he was in the area. He checked everything and couldn't find anything wrong, then did a walkabout of my apartment complex and found a new switching panel that had been installed and no one marked it on any of the internal documentation. :/

Really? I'd understand better (Still disrespect) the kissing up if they feared that the rich had a means to blow up the country or disable the internet with a device. Just all the more disappointing when it's a matter of just detaining them and taking what's owed.

A lot of people truly can't afford a lot of internet + mobile data plans and often times they're in areas where low-cost providers are so shitty that it's not even worth the cheaper prices. Also there's a lot more people who rely on just a smartphone for all their computing and communication.

I agree with this. When natural catastrophes struck, the easiest and quickest way to reach FEMA for any aid was through their online portal. Now taxes are easier done online. ANY payment you have can be done (and sometimes exclusively) online.

At the very least there should subsidies for 10-15 MBPS speeds where you can surf the internet and watch streaming services without much problem.

I legit can't tell if this was meant to be sarcastic, but on the off chance it isn't... nearly every public library has free access to the internet specifically so that people can access those things:
https://www.gatesfoundation.org/ideas/media-center/press-releases/2005/06/support-needed-for-library-technology
New data shows that 98.9 percent of all public libraries offer free public access to computers and the Interneta growth of more than 400 percent since 1996, when just one in four libraries did.

But if the government wants to stand up a government ISP to compete and offer it free to everyone I would say they should go right ahead. There's nothing stopping them.

There are some low tier plans that they have hidden away.

https://www.spectrum.com/policies/rate-card

In my area the lowest tier Internet plan is

Spectrum Internet Assist (50 Mbps x 10 Mbps)
$24.99
but you won't see them ever advertising that. It's what I got and how I get free Internet with this program. The basic 300/10 is the lowest one they actually advertised which is 85 dollars and the one you most likely have. Though maybe it's different in your area
