This. The first SpongeBob game was in 2001 for GBC. Heck, even the PS1 only got one SBSP game which is SuperSponge.

The N64 was the generation that missed licensing tie-ins.

I didn't know that there was a Spider-Man 64 until recently and Batman never received a game for the console aside from Batman Beyond. No Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game. No Jurassic Park. No X-Men.

Even, even when you go in-house, there was no Metroid game aside from Samus being a playable character in the first Super Smash Bros. How do you have a Nintendo console without Metroid?

On second thought, maybe it's for the best that we didn't get TMNT 64.

This was the only Turtles media released between 1996 and 2001.

this was around the TMNT dark ages when the 80s show fizzle out. Movie sequel bomb and the creator spilt.

Peter Laird comics and TMNT2k3 series legit save the franchise from death.

I mean, if there was a game on PS1 it could have been on N64 as well

Yeah. There were some comic-based games on N64 like Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and Shadow Man. But I couldn't imagine a TMNT game based solely on the comics. We would have gotten The Next Mutation or nothing at all -- which is what we ended up getting.

The N64 literally had Superman 64.

Also, this shitty Rugrats Mario Party ripoff that my friend at the time gave me to make up for losing the GB Kirby games I let him borrow (though I think he just stole them, and used the opportunity to off-load that Rugrats game along with the racing game he also gave me).

As for Metroid, that was because Nintendo didn't know how to follow up Super Metroid at the time, and by the time Retro Studios was formed and started working on Prime, it was too late for the N64 cycle.

Except the N64 was at the end of its life span where as PS1 would keep on getting games until 2006.

Two Rugrats game, a Powerpuff Girls fighter, 3 South Park games, Spider-man game, 4 Star Wars games including the fantastic Episode 1 Racer, and the dreadful Superman, Xena, and Hercules games from Titus to name some.

From what I've heard, there was a game planned sometime around 1999, but it got delayed because of a falling out among the developers. By the time production could resume, the N64 was already on its way out.

You're neglecting the best one of them all,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CN49Feexb8

It's just odd to see so many franchises that had previously appeared on Nintendo consoles omitted or given bizarre spinoffs (Batman Beyond).

PS2 had already launched by early 2000

N64 was still getting games through the end of 2001

Financially yeah it might not have made sense but its not like it wouldnt have been possible based on the timeline
