Ive had a couple of microwaves, a washer, a refrigerator, and an oven break because of a malfunctioning circuit board. Most of the time, the entire thing had to be replaced. I guess everything is controlled by computers now.

Build up the brand and then sell the name not quality

They made sure to get rid of small/private appliance shops that would just fix what you needed back in the early 00s.

Trying to do as much as they can to do the local mechanic shops the same. Yes...they!

Planned obsolescence. Its a good business model to require factory maintenance every 6 months plus a new unit every 5 years.

This. Same thing with cars, and other stuff.

In some sectors, manufacturers are trying to kill off distributors too.

We had an oven that worked fine for about 30 years. We think mice were nesting in it and so we bought a new one. After three years it stopped heating up. Did some research and discovered that the ignitor was the culprit. Had to replace it myself. Luckily it wasn't too difficult. Couldn't believe a brand new appliance could break so soon. Guess that's what I deserve for buying an oven manufactured by Frigidaire.

Did you ever find evidence of mice hanging out in it? Had that happen once and I couldn't stand the sight of it running towards the back of it.

I was just having a conversation about how quality in just about everything has gotten worse since 2020.

Quality is not a concern anymore. In fact it's a detriment to the goal of making sure you keep buying replacements every few years.

We spotted at least one mouse in the kitchen, and what looked like mouse droppings in and around the oven. We didn't do a forensic analysis, but it was safe to say they were hanging around in there.

when it breaks, you need to buy a new one.
