Applied for a Database Administration state level government job in Jan 24th. Got a structured interview on Jan 31th. They said they'll contact me in 2-3 weeks. Haven't heard anything yet. Saw that the position is still in screening status so that gives me some hope that they haven't hired anyone yet.

Should I do a follow up or just keep waiting?

I'd check in with them. It can't hurt at all, and will either give you some piece of mind if they're just running behind, or will let you know that you've not got the job and they've just not told you.

A year. It was a burger King and not even the one I applied for. Just got a random ass call one day and they said I see you applied to this other store would you be interested in working at this one.

That in itself shoulda been a red flag that they where so desperate they dug that deep to find someone.

More normal circumstances 6 months for the prison. But it was a process I interviewed they told me they'd call me. I got called like 3 months had to come in and sign some paperwork. And told I had to go somewhere on a specific date which was like 2 months away and after that they'd call me again with my start date.

About 2 months. (My last job)

Applied and had to wait for my clearance. Worked a bunch of temp jobs until I was able to start. Why temp work, well the job even before that laid me off and I had bills.

A year. They (government agency) got the money for the position later than they were promised. I had already moved on to something else.

I've never gotten a job I followed up on. A couple times HR sounded annoyed that I called. Usually when someone thinks you're worth hiring you hear something soon.

Position for government agency last year.

Jan 10 App Received
Feb 17 Referral to Hiring Manager
Mar 14 Interview Request
Apr 4th - Interview
April 26th - Tentative Offer
May 2nd - Firm Offer

And that is considered pretty quick for government.

Longest it took to hire me was like a month.

But I've gotten rejection letters like 4 months after applying.

Actually I just interviewed for a job recently where the president of the company (startup) name dropped me for a position like 18 months ago. I talked to him and we went back and forth through emails for a few weeks and he said he wanted me to talk to the guy that would be my boss. I said ok and they ghosted me for almost an entire year. Then I randomly got contacted by their recruiting person in January, went through 2 interviews, and was finally told they wanted someone local instead of remote and that was that.

I followed up on a job a week after the interview and was told they hired someone else. Then six months after that I get a formal written rejection in the mail. Ironically it was for the USPS and the snail mail took that long to arrive.

Yeah government moves slow. My current job is the fastest I've gotten a government job. Think 3 months from putting in the application

Blew my mind though I got called for what was supposed to be a interview. It wasn't a interview he just told me what my duties would be asked if I had any questions and asked if I was still interested

After starting I brought that up and apparently that's just how he operates. He goes solely off your resume and references. Apparently I got picked out of like 100 applicants.

Sweet fucking job so far btw.

Way back when I was applying for jobs after college, I applied to a load of places that summer and accepted a good offer shortly thereafter.

About six months later and early into the new year, a company I had applied to at the same time and hadn't been in contact with since excitedly offered me the job I had interviewed for at close to a fifth less than my job was paying me.

My reaction was literal laughter.
