I was a big fan of Shenmue 1 on Dreamcast and had a Euro copy of 2 back in the day, but never got far. Now I'm aiming to finish it on Steam but the fact that I'm broke/need a job in the game and have to stack these books at the temple are making it feel more tedious than Shenmue 1 was. Just playing it in small bites now.

What did CE think of Shenmue 2 and, for that matter, 3? Heard it ends on another cliffhanger, that sucks.

I liked both Shenmue 1 and 3 a lot. There's a huge section of Shenmue 2 that I don't really like, bookended by a great beginning and ending. But that ending is really the start of Shenmue 3.

People who say Shenmue 3 ended on a cliffhanger are missing the big picture and don't actually like Shenmue because they don't want to see it continue. Shenmue was always meant to be a longer saga, not a Hollywood trilogy where you beat the bad guy at the end.

Seems like the frustration stems from how long it's taken for Shenmue 3 to release only for it to be padded out with more filler than ever. The original plan sounded really awesome back in 2000 when we were expecting a reasonable release timeline. But I haven't played Shenmue 3 and I'm going in with tempered expectations when I do get to it (I'm absolutely buying it), so maybe I'll love it.

I beat em but... ehhhhh.
