Probably not until after he dies, or maybe if his 2nd term goes very badly.

Honestly Im kind of expecting the reverse at this point. That theyll declare him the second coming and build an offshoot religion.

The Nation of Christianity, a white supremacist Christian nationalist religion that sees Donald Trump as either the progression or reincarnation of Jesus Christ.

It's sad how likely something like that is to happen.

I think they're finally at the point where they've concluded that Jesus is too woke to be their savior and Trump is God's actual son

Or something

They don't fucking make sense. They'd believe Trump has not only been on the moon, he was the person who actually landed on the moon first, if he made such a claim.

He acts the exact opposite of Jesus in pretty much every way. I dont understand how they can call him a Christian in the first place.

American Christians dont follow Christ. Its just a social club to them. And a way to look down on other people.

Ironically, the exact thing Jesus preached against.

Ive said it before: most American Christians are just modern day Pharisees.

The most ironic thing is Christians say you should not idolize a person or symbol but they wave his flag, wear his hat, photoshop him onto Rambos body, Christians today are crazy

A lot of them don't want to be Christ like in heart, just publicly acknowledged as Christian so they can show off how pure and righteous they are.

Religion is a business here, and it's run as such. Especially the prosperity gospel folks who fleece money out of followers, turning God into an ATM.

Unfortunately for them, absolutely nothing about their works have anything to do with Jesus.

Don't forget the golden Trump statue that some of them literally worshiped.

God has a long established distaste for idolatry.

Well of course nothing they do has anything to do with Jesus, Jesus is weak and woke now, and his message doesn't work.

It's another example of these hardcore bible worshippers picking and choosing what parts that apply and don't, just like their thoughts on everything else.

I ask that question everyday. I tell them I'm atheist and instead of saying "I'll pray for you", I get "You are going to hell". I usually respond if they are not real thats just a empty promise and we will just die and be sorely disappointed. I'm avoiding being disappointed. I don't need religion to keep me in line.

I mean technically if what you believe is true, you won't be disappointed when you're dead. You won't be anything at all.

For the record though, being spiritual is separate from religion itself. Especially when it comes to our bastardized ""religious"" clubs in America who don't seem to understand why they're losing more and more of the youth.

There was a lot of criticism on the old politics board about saying that Trump is not actually a Christian. That saying it is a cop out to protect Christianity. And that is a valid position to hold. But, while it is unwise to question the faith of anyone, here is what I know for sure:

1.I have been a churchgoing Christian for my entire adult life. I know my Bible well and I am married to a woman who got an M.Div and was a hospice chaplain for years before following me into the non-profit world. Trump and his loud far right evangelicals dont practice any kind of Christianity we recognize. Our entire church is completely horrified by the words and actions of Donald Trump, as are most of the Christians I know personally.

2.I was watching Donald Trump for decades even before he entered politics and tried to overthrow the duly elected government. I have never met the man (thank goodness), but I am as certain as I can be that he has no principles derived from religion or otherwise. All that matters to him is saying and doing what benefits him. I firmly believe that if he thought declaring himself a Democrat would get him where he wanted to go, he would do that. If he thought the atheist vote would carry him over the line, he would declare that. If he thought saying the earth was flat would benefit him, then that is what his speeches will be.

It is not about judging his faith or testing him in theology. It is about knowing that this is a man with a long history of saying and doing anything that will win whatever transaction or conversation he is in. It is impossible to know what a person like that actually believes, I doubt Trump even knows. He is out for his own benefit only, and any belief beyond that is incidental.

Being a Christian has been a positive part of my life, but not only is Christianity (and organized religion itself), not for everyone, but it is perfectly valid to debate the positive and negative impacts of religion as a whole and those denominations in particular on our culture and society.

But, although the GOP has been weaponizing Christian extremists for decades, and they are loud, this MAGA cult is a whole other thing with a lot more than religion tied up in it. And again: I talk to lots of Christians daily. None of them approve of what Trump is doing or how he conducts himself. He isnt really a Christian to me. I think he is using a twisted version of it only to get where he wants to go, which is what he has done for his entire public life.
