He did a James and Mike Mondays episode on it. And Mike Matei did a recent play-through from what I understand.

I wonder if the gameplay is the same as Mikes.

Cinemassacre Truth is a conspiracy theory group that try to grasp at weird unfounded straws to explain the change in quality. It's gotten as extreme as suggesting either his wife or Screenwave has James in a conservatorship akin to Britney Spears.

People are crazy

I would like them to bring back James & Mike mondays. It had that vibe of just hanging out with friends and playing games. And it was interesting how they had different approaches to hard games. Mike would try to analyze it and be strategic and James would kinda just keep throwing himself at it and trying different things until something worked.

I also liked that series where James was playing Mario Maker 2 levels that his youngest daughter made. That was surprisingly fun to watch.

For every reasonable take, you get like 10 unhinged takes on the Cinemassacre Truth subreddit. Like yeah, James has checked out basically. You could even see it in the later bunch of James and Mike Mondays plus the mediocre to outright bad AVGN videos. Yeah, Screenwave/Retroware didn't help things and have their various issues as well. Yeah, Bootsy and Kyle left due to not being treated right.

It's just really messed up when people go after James' wife, make comments about his personal life, and take a Youtuber not being as good as he once was so personally. Hell some even go after James' musical taste. "lol he like entry level boomer bands". Ffs.

Irony is people say he checked out but if he made videos as low effort as the early AVGN vids they would freak out.

They want him as a middle aged married man to still put 100+ hours of work into vids like he did Rob. And make less money by doing it

That was a pretty hilarious episode. One of his better ones, I actually laughed quite a bit in it. Especially the part when he tried to explain how moving in the room works.

Yeah, Goonies 2 is a good B-tier NES game.

2 is a nice metroidvania game.
It got some issues, but it is still worth playing.

No review.

With how obsessive the Cinemassacre Truth community is I'm shocked that they rarely mention the fact that James has borderline no tech literacy and despite making filmmaking his purpose in life, he doesn't really know anything about it. Dude was storing primary back-ups of each episode across multiple blank DVDs as recent as the late 2010s.

I can't wrap my head around how someone can spend their entire life being devoted to filmmaking yet being completely oblivious to the fact that filmmaking technology and techniques have changed from the 80s to late 90s.

I'm totally willing to accept that the AVGN is a character/persona and other people have largely been responsible for the series but it blows my mind that James has such a narrow level of awareness of his primary hobby and interest.
