What's the equivalent of a rtx 4070? What's the difference?

I'm not too familiar with their GPUs either tbh. I know their CPUs utterly pwn Intel nowdays in every way (except for them lacking ultra-budget options), but I believe NVidia still has the superior GPUs (although not by much).

In my experience you might run into generally poorer performance from AMD but current gen is almost negligible.

That videocardbenchmark site uses a synthetic benchmark. Basically it tests your GPU using computation that might be used in games/apps (might is the keyword here). While synthetic benchmark has its use, you'll be much better off with site that uses actual games/apps as measuring stick.

For example RX 7900XT and RX6950XT were priced at $1,000+ and RTX 4070 at $600. I won't judge your opinion but imho a $1,000+ card is not comparable to a much cheaper $600 card.
