They try to separate a woman from her friend and family.

It could be. Making a person financially dependent on the abuser is huge so the victim feels trapped. Moving away to separate that person from an existing support system would do the trick

Isolation from family and friends is controlling abuser 101.

It makes everything they want to do so much easier.

A weird one I saw was a guy my mom was with would take a different route everytime he went to see his mom which was closer to where she was from. Little did he know that woman knows how to navigate. My mom has gotten lost a few times but she finds her way back even without a map.

And yeah he was abusive just not physically to her but he had prior records that my mom found out later. He just didn't try her cause she can scrap herself. Instead he tried feeding her pills to subdue her. (She has pain problems) wonder what he thought when he found all those pills under the couch cushions.
