Yeah the asset pull shit games get more support from the gaming community than it should be allowed. That's why we see some pop up every other month lol. Technically Palworld is one of them cuz they just asset pulled from Pokemon and their previous game Craftopia. Same for Only Up etc

People keep saying who buys these shit but nah the average gamer isn't as informed as people think

My favorite part of the story:

It was a bit of a struggle, with a young family, going from paycheck to paycheck, he says. At that time, says Gardner, anyone could apply to sell a game on the PlayStation Store, and submit a design document outlining how it would work. I had a look through Sonys back end, and saw it was actually quite easy to get through their quality assurance

Know what, good for him. He exploited Sony's shit acceptance policy and now he's probably living comfortably supporting his family on these games lmao

Yeah got to agree. He aint scamming anyone or do anything horrible. He made a crappy game but people seem to want to pay him for it.

Game development is an expensive and time-consuming business. Right now, 2,000 people are working on the next instalment in Ubisofts blockbuster Assassins Creed series, across 18 studios around the globe, and its a project that will take 2 to 3 years. Imagine how any of those people might feel to learn that last year, a self-taught programmer racked up nearly 280,000 from a series of games he made while sitting in his pants on hot days in a two-bedroom flat in Harlesden. And that each one took him about 30 minutes.

I'm imagining they feel like that would be a terrible margin and they would all be fired if Ass Creed 38 make a quarter million bucks.

Ill be honest, at one point it sort of became a joke to me, he says. I thought, Ill see how far I can push it. Quite far, it seems. Gardner then released Stroke the Dik-Dik. Its an animal, yeah?

I respect this guy lmao

Something similar happened to another developer who invented a way to procedurally generate those mindless Candy Crush style puzzle games. It started off as a joke, then as an experiment, and then at some point they actually turned the whole system off because they had made something like a million dollars and they started to feel really bad about it.
