It has a heating issue right? So their solution was to basically remove that safety measure.

Just 1. I bought a arcade version never had the issue again. Now though it might be a problem because it's been in a shed for 3 years

Yes all 3 of them. Didn't a Microsoft employee say they did it on purpose?

Finally? We've known this for years. It happened because the soldering on the chipset was shoddy and cracked under repeated heat cycles.

Happened to 2 of mine on the same game.

About an hour into the first Assassins Creed game, and then the second one had it about an hour until the end of the same game.

After that, I went to Sony/PS3 and never went back. Do still have a working 360 though for a few old exclusives.

Mine had a separate hardware problem, they ended up replacing it with one that had the HDMI port so that was great.

The problem wasnt that the console got too hot, but rather it got extremely hot and then quickly cooled down; that strain on its internal system resulted in the Red Ring of Death. Feels like a problem we should have been made aware of when it was relevant, say when the Xbox 360 was in its heyday. But no matter, at least we know now.

so thats why the towel trick worked? kept that fucker baking? lmao

Yeah, it was my brothers fat 360 though, and the funniest part was we sent it in for refurbishment three times before they finally wrote it off as a lost cause and gave us a rebate for a new one, which was ultimately how we wound up with the slim 360 thats currently up in a box in the attic since he plays on PC now and I moved on to the newer generation.

I think I had a least four before I finally got one to keep working.
The whole debacle was annoying, but MS did a pretty good job of making it easy to return.
So, I'll give them that.

Yeah this happened to me, they sent me out a brand new one.

And it happened to that one, too.

It happened to mine 3 times. Once under the manufacturer's warranty. Then again under the extended warranty after all the RRoD complaints. Then a third time when that extended period was over.

I vowed to never buy another Microsoft console after that and never will. No need with a PC anyway.

I had a launch version pro. Never rrod. It did have its optical drive die though after like 4 years of hard use.

I owned more PS2s than I ever did 360s. Like 3 of those died due to Dre.

I also got Wii U at launch and it bricked within a week.

I still buy Nintendo and Sony products.

I never got the 3 rings of death, but the DVD drive failed and I reported it as 3 rings and got a new one out of it. A new refurbished one anyway.

Mine didn't RROD, but I did get the E74 error.

Sent it in, got a replacement and its disk drive failed out a couple days later. Had to then send that one in which they repaired directly and sent back, and it's been fine ever since (although granted I haven't fired it up in years, so who knows if it still works now).

My 360 use to red ring at random times like when I was playing and sometimes on start, never a consistent thing. One day I decided to look it up and found out the number of red rings can tell you what the problem was. In my case it was a power block issue so to test it out before I bought a new one, I borrowed my brothers block and sure enough the 360 worked fine without issue. I eventually bought a new block and never red ringed again.in fact I still have that same 360.
