My impression is that they were socialist towards the people that thought of as "true aryans" and thought everyone else should be subjugated, killed, or left to starve if they were incapable of helping themselves.

So basically the same as in the US - socialism exists for the rich in the form of tax cuts and leniency by the legal system, but for no one else.

The US actually spends trillions of dollars every year on social welfare programs. social security (for the old and disabled), Medicare, medicaid, and food stamps being some of the biggest ones.

Its always weird to me when people say the US doesn't provide anything for poor people because it indicates that its probably not a poor person saying that because actual poor people know that these programs exist and use them.

At least per podcasts I've heard on the rise of Nazism, Hitler openly revels in Mein Kampf and in private correspondances over the Nazis intentionally using lefitist colors and imagery to confuse, confound, and enrage leftists during their rise to power.

Once they were in power, leftists were the first that the Nazis purged. Nazism in particular, and fascism in general, were and are hardcore far right ideologies.

Or I'm not trying to debate his overall stance, but rather making the point that someone can overall be right wing and still have views that align with the left on specific issues (or vice versa), and that this topic serves as a reminder of that.

Not sure why CE constantly assume that if the obvious isn't explicitly spelled out, disagreement with it is implied.

Why exactly did you just make that post if you are going to make the same logical fallacy that they are calling out in the post that you quoted?

The right has been trying to portray Hitler as a leftist for a long time, they know what they're doing.
Which makes no sense. Because that would mean that they are arguing that a lot of people on the right want to follow into the steps of a leftist... Nothing about them makes sense.

if Hitler actually made vegetarianism a political talking point it would've been to make it a right wing talking point. he already made animal rights a right wing talking point at least partially as yet another thing to get people to hate Jews/communists/whatever by claiming they are mean to animals. so it wouldn't have been out of character for him to say not eating meat was if anything, right wing.

besides that, it's fucking hitler. who the actual shit cares if he had any left wing talking points its fucking hitler. hitler also hated smoking and Nazi Germany was one of the first countries to crack down on smoking, smoking being bad is now pretty much universally accepted so no one really cares that the Nazis actually agreed on that.

Prager U is radical right wing propaganda.

Like all dishonest right wing media figures, Prager U's views on Hitler will vascilate between downplaying aspects of Hitler's ultra-nationalism, and lying about fundamental aspects of Hitler to try and attach him to the left.

Yeah, always amusing that one. Aside from them just straight up saying the left are Nazis, the right also loves to do this thing where they call the left socialists and heavily emphasize that the Nazis were the national SOCIALIST party will winking at you. Of course then they turn around and cry that the left calls anyone they don't like a Nazi and literal Hitler.

"Ugh, stop calling everyone a nazi, you feminazi!"

I am going to actually talk about this based on right and left in their European meaning. So economics. As in means of production in capitalists' hands (right) versus workers' hands (left). Social issues have nothing to do with it and it's a very American thing to make government policy or social issues analogous with unrelated economy issues (like thinking vegetarian is left wing somehow, Modi is a right wing leader in India and a vegetarian, as are much of the right in India, and many left wing parties outside the US are very socially conservative). The Nazis appealed to left wing people (working class laborers) using populist rhetoric. But importantly he primarily blamed Jews as the capitalist class responsible for their exploitation. However many people in his party were quite left wing in their economic views. To gain power Hitler planned to align with the right (the wealthy capitalist class who naturally have a lot of power). This required him to purge the left wing elements from his party in order to gain power, which he did (killing even people who he considered friends). Then of course once in power the capitalists had free reign to continue exploiting workers.

Hitler had no interest in anything other than power, and the left wing rhetoric on economics was simply a means to gain a base to gain power. But Americans want two boxes called left and right that literally every issue gets crammed in. It's not how the world is and it's not relevant to Hitler because all he cared about was having power. He had no interest in who controlled the means of production as long as he was ultimately in power.

That's why I draw the line between left and right like that:

Left: The community exists to increase the quality of life for the individual. Individual >>> Community.

Right: The individual exists to create prosperity for the community. Community >>> Individual.

Ideally, there is balance in there.
Individual freedom for everyone, no one gets excluded and society makes sure that no ones suffers, yet there are enough rules, taxes and authority in place to make sure that everything goes well and society can prosper as a whole too.

Use right politics to keep the system running, use left politics to keep the system fucking worth to live in it in the first place.

Now take a guess what Hitler was, wo went "fuck individual rights and freedom, gimme the total 3rd Reich and make it great, as we put every single Deutsche Reichsmark into our plans for world domination!"

hitler was socially far right

his expressed economics in the early 20s were pretty "left-wing", never mind having scathing criticisms of traditionally right-wing institutions like the european monarchy, but in he pivoted rightward with respect to economics to secure the backing of industrialists and set his party apart from the social democrats and communists he was competing with for power electorally, never mind making himself absolute dictator when the opportunity presented itself

extreme-auth-center is where he tends to be placed on the political compass - his neighbors to the immediate left were the strassers (who he purged); his neighbors to his immediate right, the italian fascists
