Does that sound real to you?

edit: wow typo; do you believe THAT* "third culture kids" are real

TLDR kids and people who grew up outside of parents or singular culture, often moving between cultures frequently, and not only developing a singular culture or dual culture personality/understanding, but culminating in a third culture where you don't belong to where you live or where your parents are from

It's usually unintentional, but it's real. It'd be an interesting social experiment to switch places of a MAGA kid and a light skinned Jihadist kid and see the results.

added a TLDR for you

People who move a lot as a kid and have wildly varying cultural influences growing up often develop a third culture of sorts where they don't identify with where they live or where their parents/ethnicity is from

They often are very accepting, sympathetic, open minded, but have trouble with "cultural loyalties" and identity stuff. Tend to be anti-racist, not just not-racist.

Are you asking if I believe military brats are real? Yes, they are.

Or are you asking if they are a novel enough group to have a Wikipedia article written about them? I don't know, I'm not the Wikipedia police.

I guess I'm basically asking do you think military brats can be called third culture and yes, does it really matter enough to form a whole new people concept

If I'm understanding this right, isn't this the typical immigrant kid? Like say, a Chinese person born in the US, but raised outside the Chinese culture and identifies more with America than China? Or are we talking about a Chinese-American who doesn't feel fully Chinese or fully American?

so in the immigrants case typically you see

first gen parents are first culture
second gen kids become second culture kids who juggle two identities

If that kid were to be moved around all his childhood from Singapore to Hong Kong to England to America every couple of years, he'd probably become third culture as he does not have significant cultural ties to just one or two cultures.

A big part of this is that third culture kids often are in an "in-group" among themselves, something second-culture or first-culture people do not participate in usually.

Wow who'd you know that was third culture

I grew up military brat in Korea so a LOT of who I grew up with gained characteristics like this

Unfortunately many of them went back to the states and seem to have completely forgotten all their experiences and cultural lessons given back in Korea

I didnt move around a lot as a kid but have completely rejected the culture I was raised in and dont identify with my nationality of ethnicity in way, shape or form.
