There's no way in hell that the Russian government would agree to a long form one-on-one interview with an actual western journalist. They flat out said in response to the interview that they receive requests they turn down all the time. They were looking for someone who would throw out softballs and sit there quietly, and by the time things started rolling I'm sure Carlson wasn't interested in ending up in some gulag so he metaphorically had a gun to his head anyway.

You can practically pinpoint the exact moment in the interview where Carlson realized that he had made a huge mistake and it's this right here:

Nah, if he wanted an actual journalist he would have agreed to their interview requests. He got exactly what he wanted: a little puppet who would spread his propaganda to the weak little conservatives in the west.
