It is super fucked. At minimum if someone under 18 can get married there should be clear laws on age gaps, but in general I think it should be outlawed before the age of 18

Had to check the official states, the ten that require 18 are: Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Rhode Island, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut, & Michigan. & To my knowledge in the last few years, we tried to pass something in the state or house that Republicans shot down that would have adjusted age of consent laws or marriage. They shoot down so much shit I can't even keep track anymore, but we know the Dems push to regulate this more than Repubs do so that tells someone all they need to know

The vast majority of countries allow this, mostly with parental consent. It's awful. But trying to make this an America thing seems bizarre.

Huh. Why does Planned Parenthood go against it?

They say its a "slippery slope" towards restricting abortion access for minors (something Republicans DEFINITELY want to do) and other rights.

From what I understand the ACLU was against the specific California bill because it didn't have enough data about the scope and severity of the problem; but also the ACLU is always going to be against the government limiting freedoms.

You can get married at 16 in Scotland, English come up here to get married as it's 18 in their country

It looks like most at least align with the age of consent. Not ideal, but much better than the 5(?) that seem to allow any age with parental consent.
