I mean people make serious commercial products with RPG Maker. A lot of the most famous RPG maker games are non-RPGs but you have the original Lisa the Painful being made with RPG Maker and both Fear & Hunger games being made in the engine.

idk, the rpg maker "dlc" just looks like standard asset packs you can find for pretty much any game engine. I use unity and stuff on theirs and unreal engine's asset store can go up to hundreds of dollars, so the rpg maker stuff is pretty cheap all things considered.
