I used to be Team Silent up until around 2012 but all modern Silent Hill stuff seems to suck and all the new Resident Evil stuff has been home run after home run

I love them both in different ways. Silent Hill 1 - 4 are great games for me, but everything else after those, besides Shattered Memories, are disappointing. I'm still hopeful for SH2 remake and newer games, though.
Resident Evil has several games I've played and enjoyed. I loved blasting zombies in half or decapitating them in the original RE2 and RE3 on the PlayStation, which is something that we don't quite get anymore in the newer games. When you think about it both series are everywhere. Resident evil is fixed camera, third person and first person as well as its horror to action level being everywhere.
Silent hills quality is all over the place after 3. Then theres games like the room in which everyone hated until hipsters said it was actually good (its not. Go play it) I really dont get the room. Please tell me what was good: -The rooms first person controls were stiff as hell. Constantly going back to your room made the game feel disjointed -Henry is the worst protag and might as well be a silent protag with how little he reacts. -The stage structure and the stages themselves was awful as well revisiting them all. -The "villain" sucked. - -Having a "guest" character with you half the game sucked. -The charging melee combat was awful -The ghosts sucked I just hate this game. It has little to do with silent hill and the setting, story, gameplay and monsters all were bad. This game is thenleast scary by far. I see youtubers replay practically all other silent hills than this one. --- When it rains, it pours. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I prefer Silent Hill's stories, setting, and general theme, but the only one I've ever been really motivated to play is SH2 whereas I've played a shitload of RE games.

I can't really compare them. Resident Evil has a ton of games I really like and a few bad games. Silent Hill has like 3 great games (1-3), 1 okay game (4), and a bunch of trash (the rest). I guess I pick Resident Evil because it still has good games.
