Also I just have a feeling that the "changing fate" stuff in the end of Remake was a red herring for both the players and in-universe to try to give people hope for Aerith's fate when that time has come. That's what comes to my mind when they say they haven't made drastic changes to the story, and Aerith surviving would be a drastic change in the story. This would also mean Zack's involvement here will ultimately not mean anything to Cloud and co.'s journey here.
