I was in a bad wreck 3/11/22, my whole car did a front flip. Some of you might remember the topic, it had pictures. I refused going to the hospital at first because I thought I was fine. My mother who was giving me a ride home at the time kind of scared me into visiting a hospital because I felt small pain in my chest where the seat belt was. I went in but as soon as they brought me in I was scared of the costs because I cant afford healthcare. The doctor told me whether or not I walked out now or they would charge me the same regardless of if I did a vitals test. So he did the scan where they check for liquids to see if I had internal bleeding and I was fine and discharged.

Lo and behold, my charge came in the mail for $1,317 dollars. After being hounded by debit collectors for two years now, I just got a letter offering a discounted charge of $921.90 dollars. Still a massive amount to me but its a lot better. Still annoyed that I initially tried to appeal the cost to PaymentsMD and upon review they declined to lower the charge.

A grand to run a scan that said youre fine.

I have to wonder if youd get a better deal from the hospital. They at least know the extent theyre ripping you off as opposed to debt collectors who are onviously just trying to maximize payouts.

Collection agencies are bullshit and they buy up debt hoping that people will pay the "discounted" amount because they think it's a good option. Fuck em and ignore it.

PaymentsMD was the hospital and now this is some place called AvanteUSA. I appealed to them after the first letter I got to which they declined me.

You already took the hit. It would recover once it was repaid.

One way or another you should definitely resolve it one way or another. Whether its taking a deal from the debt collectors or some other means.

Wouldnt want my credit getting dinged for that.
