I think my biggest gripe is the overdesigning of most of the characters. It's a visual eyesore, especially with TV guy and Radio Guy. Everyone is a tumblr OC Donutsteel and because of nobody stands out. The fast-moving, snappy animation already makes it tough to keep track of what's going on at times, and this visual style does it no justice. Like imagine a bad action movie chase scene but now everyone is wearing flashing neon lights.

The dialogue was really hit or miss with no in-between. What saved the poor writing was the very, very well done voice acting. Definitely can't give the voice talent enough credit for both the speaking and singing parts.

Speaking of, the songs were overall good with some definite standouts. They're the kind of catchy musical-esque numbers you'll see flooding TikTok for the next month or so. Again the voice talent and music writers did a great job here.

The story was a mess to begin with. You have 8 characters thrown in your face with zero introduction (and a few more later on in the series) that you're just supposed to know who they are? Like watching the YouTube pilot (which had the same character problem) was required reading before viewing the Amazon series. But they still give you moments of explanation as though the pilot never existed too? So you're left thinking "who the fuck are those guys" half the time and "why the fuck are they telling us this thing again" the other half. It's very confusing and they should have either remastered and re-aired the pilot or put all of the necessary introductions and backstory into the Amazon series.

That being said everything definitely stitched itself together much more coherently about halfway through the series. They did an alright job addressing some pretty tough themes like abuse, mental health, and other sensitive/adult themes. Not perfect but they didn't drop the ball at least.

If you're not a fan of musicals, then I don't think you'll really like this series since that's the part that kept me interested. It has a unique story to tell but it fumbles in how it wants to tell that story through its visuals and its prose. I imagine without the backing of Amazon things would have been even messier. I recall they were greenlit for two seasons so hopefully they dial things down a bit in the visual department and spend an extra week or two on rewrites and edits to the dialogue and storyboarding.

Uhhhhhhh I don't know her canonical age so I'm definitely not gonna comment on that.

The show wants you to think she has these deep internal struggles but also writes her very one dimensionally. She's charming but not someone you root for other than for being the main character.

I disagree on the character design, I was able to follow along with it rather easily. With that said, there was times in the animation where it was hard to follow, but it was because of how it was animated and not because of the character design.

With that said, not only do I think the dialogue was the weakest part, but so was the pacing. The dialogue definately felt like some third grade writing the script. If I'm going to give the movie "The Wolf of Wallstreet" shit for spewing the f-word like an edgelord wrote the script, I'll have to give this show shit for that as well. But my biggest complaint was the pacing, it was too fast for my liking. I thought the first 4 episodes were fine because it had more to do with the actual premise of the show, but the moment it started going into the other subplot about heaven and the extermination was when it all fell apart imo. Any of the serious revelations that happened in episode 6 fell flat and I can't help but feel maybe a couple of more fillers would've helped, with at least one episode introducing Serenity as a character. Even the ending felt rushed.

With that said, I enjoyed the shit out of the characters and I agree that the voice cast carried it 100%. The biggest stand outs are the musicals, I know a musical is a success if I'm still humming the music days after I watched it. There was probably only 1 stinker, the sorry song, but otherwise I'm kind of obessed with the songs in this show. My main problem with the movie "Wonka" and "The Color Purple" that while it's a musical and the songs are well done, none of the songs were memorable. I guess it helped in this show that each songs are able to stand out on their own, the problem with most Musicals made recently is that they start to sound the same from one another.

7/10 show imo. I hope the second season slows it down and not cram too much stuff into it.

Well they make it a point to say Charlie's mom has been gone for 7 years and they show a flashback to when Charlie was a little girl when she left so like yea it's kinda dubious.

I mean, if someone is dating a demon from Hell, their soul is probably already lost anyway. What's statutory at that point, really? Another ten years added to one's eternal damnation?

The point of the show is that sinners and demons can be redeemed, so I think they would care.

It was the pacing for me too. Just breakneck all the damn time through, but I feel that's due to only having 8 episodes for an entire season.

Well, she never called to me anyway. If I were to go for a demon -- like the actual Satanic variety and not the Japanese folklore or ambiguous ghoul world variety -- it would probably be Loona.

As a Christian, I would never willingly allow myself to fall for someone with an upside down pentagram on her chest. But I also know that I've fallen to every temptation I ever had, so it may also be a matter of time.

That's fair, and possibly one of the downsides of partnering with Amazon.

This is gamefaqs, can't ever be too sure.

I feel bad ripping the show because my girlfriend loves it, but this stuff just isn't for me.

They rely far too much on excessive swearing and sex stuff. It gets old quickly.

It was well done for a cute youtube mini series, but as an amazon-backed series, it's really not very good. Honestly salvaged by the musical numbers which are pretty catchy.

I like how they gave Alastor shadow man powers and not Husk. Despite Husk having many dealings with friends on the other side.

It's definitely way too short. Vivziepop isn't the best writer in the world, but it feels like they ordered way too few episodes and still required a full story arc to be written and finished. I'm hopeful with its success that season 2 will be a bit more robust.

I watched the first ep and it seemed like it was trying really hard to be funny and none of it was landing outside of the physical comedy bits. Dialogue felt very Tumblr-y, which is a lazy description but an apt one imo.

It felt like it needed 1 more episode to me. First 6 were fine, but 7+8 needed a bit more space.
