Had my last meeting with Navy history professor today, always a good time; signed up for courses in the fall, just have to figure out how to change my degree plan to reflect that.

Read about some cool sounding Italian comics today...but they're not TL'ed <_<

When I went away on my cruise end of January, I went a bit nuts and read the Reacher books 2 - 6. They were fun little thrillers, his writing style is a bit weird and terse. "That's for sure" is said like every two paragraphs. But I enjoyed them, though I think I will skip book 7 as it is about to be season 3 of the Amazon show and I don't want to spoil myself.

Out of them all, I would probably say Die Trying was the best one. Running Blind had a dumbass twist I wasn't a big fan of. Echo Burning was alright if generic. Tripwire felt like a romance novel with no real action till the end. Without Fail I actually enjoyed the thriller aspect but it felt real short and kind of came and went.

You're at the same spot as me. I just read Book 6 not that long ago. I happened to be looking at GoodReads today and it turns out I read the first Reacher book back in 2011 and I'm only up to Book 7 so clearly I'm making great progress. Just goes to show how many other books I have to read.

Whenever I find myself actually interested in a book / series I more or less go hard at it. I skipped book 1 cause it was the Amazon series season 1 and I didn't want a retread. The show is very good, btw.

I haven't gotten hooked on reading since...Dune? I read the first 6 right after reading all of the Game of Thrones books. After Dune I read the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo trilogy. Then I got Hyperion and it stopped me dead and completely. Made it halfway and my enjoyment of reading was lost. I picked up American Gods many years later and same deal, book didn't grab me and it's sat unfinished. Reacher is the first time in a long time I was hooked, I think I read the entirety of the first 3.5 hour plane ride in silence. Just reading a book.

Apparently posting a legit topic asking after a user who will not be named, if they are suspended or not, is actually an "X is suspended" in disguise and considered trolling.

Anyway. User who I can't name but frequents this topic, if you were suspended, then get at me if you can.

Just finished the entirety of Marcel Prousts In Search of Lost Time. Cheers!
Good job!

I've been continuing to collect reading materials for my upcoming break from college; currently have 2 of the 4 classes I took this semester done (History of US Navy and American Immigration). American Presidency and Literature from 1865 to Present remain...

I'm gonna read a LOT of comic strips...and that huge stack of books I took a photo of awhile ago...lol

Throwing it out there, we can always consider migrating the topic to a different board if not website. Gonna really hate to lose the ease of use and simplicity of GameFAQs posting interface though...

Finished "All the Lovers in the Night" by Meiko Kawakami.

Really fun, light read. Beginning of the story reads like "Watamote" except the MC is 35 years old. Eventually gets more serious and introspective as she develops her friendship with two other characters. Humorously relatable at times. >_>

well i'm here on my alt. forgot to check in on this thread until just now. it sucks that my main will never be able to access the board again. but oh well, so it goes. and i'm on Humble_Novice's Discord server. pretty cool place.

but i'm sad to admit that i haven't really done much reading in the last week or so. got to about 2/3s of the way through Dune, and i've just been busy with other stuff and haven't found the time to get back to it. and i doubt will anytime soon, since the farmers market that i want to launch my small business selling my mini cheesecakes at just opened up applications for the 2024-2025 season yesterday, and new vendors have until May 12th to apply. so i gotta kick my plans into high gear and get my shit together. i'll get back to Dune eventually though.

Read the facsimile version of some of Basquiat's notebooks, his handwriting was really nice + had some interesting sentence construction as he did. I'm also 90% sure the guy that bought them back then and published em thanked everyone in the acknowledgements EXCEPT you know, Basquiat...

I'm reading Rise of a Manor Lord, Book Two by T.E. Bakutis. It's essentially if Nick Miller from New Girl was brought over to a world of magic and became the lord of a manor after stabbing the previous owner who was trying to kill him.

I just finished Book One earlier this week and I loved it. Coincidentally Book Two released the day I finished. Normally I take a break with series stuff so I don't get burnt out but I wanted to continue.

Omg this would give me anxietythis wasnt in the syllabus??
It was but to elaborate a little:
>typical course has "everything" up at once in module format, you just move through the modules of reading/discussion/paper as weeks progress
>professor for Presidency "unlocked" material week by week because he didn't want students to get too far ahead
(which would be fine except)
>I had to e-mail him three weeks into the course because he forgot to unlock said week's module (here's where I learned his unlocking system)
>another student had to e-mail him on the second to last module because he hadn't put that week's paper up
>two weeks before end of semester/last module of work goes up partially--no brief or page to upload final paper--and we're alerted that professor has taken a leave of absence
>I finish the discussion work/rest of my course work in the first week, basically think I'm done with semester
>four days before end of semester another professor takes over for our original prof, unlocks the final paper
>I happen to check on Friday and end up writing it yesterday
Long story short, basically the last paper was always intended, but the absent-minded handling of the course made it so I actually couldn't do it until the eleventh hour, so to speak.

I hope you feel better today!!

The state of manga in America is nuts. Hokuto no Ken's original run was five years, Viz's translation 30 years later is likely to be in a similar time frame. Their One Piece translation still has errors and hasn't had any corrective reprintings for the sake of consistency--you know, if you make a mistake, it's better to double down than admit and fix it--while the French publisher, Glenat, went through three versions before settling on a more accurate translation. Absolutely nuts.
