I was really hoping it'd be bad so I could be pissed about it being cancelled cuz it's the ONLY good superhero content we've had in years, but... fuck. Nah. They had to go and do right by it and all the characters.

At least it went out on a high note.

doom patrol was fucking special tho. there wasn't anything like it. even the joke superhero shows like the harley quinn animated series (which i really like) don't have that... je ne sais quoi that doom patrol does.

I DID like the Rocket parts.

The rest of the movie was just really long boring filler with an obnoxious soundtrack.

My biggest takeaway from the WHOLE MOVIE was, as my other post implied "licensed soundtracks are my least fucking favorite thing, now."

You didn't miss much. S4 kept hitting the status quo reset button and everyone kept being as terrible or angsty as they were in S1.

The ending definitely was a good send-off, but the ride it took to get there was pretty painful.

There's nothing to whoosh about. Part of what made S1 good was having Niles and/or Mr. Nobody to force them to settle their differences. Immortus (or the butts) never carried the same weight.

Without them, the entire season is reduced to:
-Cliff focusing entirely on his grandchild at the expense of common sense
-Larry focusing entirely on his alien child at the expense of doing literally anything else productive
-Rita constantly bouncing back and forth between trying to be a good person/leader and failing to do so because of her need to spite Rouge
-Jane lashing out at everyone because she can't figure out a puzzle metaphor, and the entire Underground is a no-show for 99% of the season
-Cyborg trying to be normal again, except he can't stop being toxic to his old school buddies

Rouge was the only one holding the show together for most of the season because, unlike everyone else, she was actually trying to change and making observable progress about it, even if that progress amounted to "nobody on the team likes/respects you, suck it up since this is your punishment for S3".

listen, everything you said is accurate. i won't argue with that.

but you're saying it's bad. it's not. that's the fucking point of the show, and has been... the whole fuckin time lol. their flaws, their damage, their questionable morals, their status as superheroes, their growth, even their backsliding.

big fuckin woosh if that's too difficult to understand.

The show was good with its absurdity first and foremost.

It gets less entertaining with tired plots like the Bureau of Normalcy and the overdone "government bad, especially as white supremacist stand-ins". I actually appreciated that they tried something different with the Brotherhood of Evil, even if they end up being pretty much forgotten after S3.

And when S4 doesn't even have that going for it, we're left to stew with only the characters whining about their flaws and not doing anything to improve them because they're dying and/or too tired to care. The episode where they reverted to their youth and proceeded to do fuck-all about it was the most boring shit. And that was the last episode before the break.
